Reports are out claiming that Arsenal hero Mathieu Flamini highlighted the importance of his side’s win over arch rivals Tottenham on Wednesday night.
The Gunners defeated Spurs 2-1 at White Hart Lane in the third round of the Capital One Cup thanks to a double from Flamini, either side of Calum Chambers’ 56th-minute own-goal.
In the wake of the victory, Flamini spoke of the emphasis of ensuring the Arsenal faithful enjoyed themselves by going home with a derby triumph to reflect on.
It was important because it was a derby,” said the Frenchman.
“When you play Tottenham you want to win the game, but also for the fans because it’s a massively important game for them. We did a great job and now we can start the new week.”
Arsenal, placed fifth on the Premier League table, next meet fourth-placed Leicester City at King Power Stadium on Saturday.
