Ligue 1 champions Bordeaux stayed very quiet on the transfer market unlike rivals Marseille or Lyon, but their efforts to make Yoann Gourcuff’s stay permanent could prove a bargain.
The France playmaker was instrumental in helping Bordeaux capture their first league crown in 10 years in May, and scored a brace when Bordeaux started their defence of their title with a 4-1 win over Lens last weekend.
The 23-year-old Gourcuff, whose elegance and skills have prompted comparisons with the great Zinedine Zidane, knows all eyes will be on him again when Bordeaux visit Sochaux on Saturday.
Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc said to reporters that Gourcuff will have a great season again with Bordeaux and France and added that Gourcuff is not a man to waste time on praise.
Blanc added that the midfielder is very generous and ready to suffer for the team and that will definitely pay off.
