Ex-Arsenal Striker Blasts Man Utd’s Bastian Schweinsteiger

Reports are out claiming that former Arsenal striker John Hartson slammed Bastian Schweinsteiger after Manchester United’s defeat at Champions League opponents Wolfsburg.

Schweinsteiger was replaced by Michael Carrick on 69 minutes as United crashed out of the Champions League in dramatic fashion.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Hartson said: “Louis van Gaal has had all that money to spend, and he has failed.

“They lost their very first game in the group, then failed to beat PSV at home, and only struggled to a win over Wolfsburg at home before tonight.

“I think Bastian Schweinsteiger is a quarter of the player we are used to seeing – that man used to boss games, but now he doesn’t have the legs.

“He can only play in holding midfield, well that’s OK but my dad could play there, passing five yards to the left and five to the right.

“Schweinsteiger was bossed tonight and was hauled off.

“United cannot afford to be a club that just gives players a pay day. They need legs, they need more power in midfield.”
