The Gabon international has become the first player from his country to land the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) top individual prize, rewarded for a fine calendar year for both club and country.

26-year-old Aubameyang scored a massive 43 goals for both Dortmund and Gabon in 2015 to beat Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure and Swansea City winger Andre Ayew to the award.

Toure was going for a fifth-successive African Player of the Year title but fell seven votes short of Aubameyang who received 143 votes from the coaches or technical directors from 43 African nations.

Ivory Coast star Toure, on 136 votes, was 24 ahead of Ghanaian Ayew (112) who joined the Swans from Marseille in the summer of 2015.

In fourth place was Southampton and Senegal forward Sadio Mane on 61 votes, ahead of fifth-placed Yacine Brahimi (59) of Porto and Algeria.
