Reports are out claiming that Arsenal have no plans to bring forward new contract plans for Joel Campbell.
The London Evening Standard reported that Arsenal are in no rush to improve Campbell’s current contract despite the winger’s fine run of form in recent games.
His manager has admitted to being surprised by Campbell’s recent displays, even paying him the compliment of suggesting he could be this season’s Francis Coquelin.
And Arsene Wenger is pleased that his decision to keep hold of the winger in the summer, when he was expected to depart the club, has paid off.
“I flat-refused to let him go because I saw something in him that gives you belief, because of his attitude,” Wenger said.
“I thought always the attitude was there. But after Olympiacos, in a game where we had a knife on the throat, he turned up with something special – great teamwork and a pass for (Olivier) Giroud on the second goal that was massive for us.
“And then I thought ‘he can play under pressure as well, which is important for us’.”
