It has been reported that Arsene Wenger was mainly relieved following Arsenal’s qualification to the Champions League group stage.
The Gunners survived a nervy ending to their 1-0 win over Besiktas on Wednesday night after Mathieu Debuchy was sent off for a second yellow card with 15 minutes remaining.
Earlier, £35million signing Alexis Sanchez had scored his first goal for the north London club which ultimately resulted in a 17th-straight group stage qualification for Wenger’s men, relieving the French tactician.
“Not qualifying is unthinkable until it happens and then everyone thinks ‘why did it happen’,” Wenger told Sky Sports.
“It is a weight off our shoulders now because we can focus on the Premier League, wait for the draw.
“We played against a good team and had to show a goof fighting spirit.
“We feel we have done the job and we have a clear conscience.”
