Benfica star Fabio Coentrao has declared that he wants to join Real Madrid this summer.
The Spanish giants have been searching for reinforcements on the left of defence for some time and the Portuguese international could fit the bill having excelled for Benfica in recent seasons.
Bayern Munich have also been linked with the 23-year-old, but Coentrao says Madrid are the only club that could tempt him away from Portugal.
Coentrao said : “What I want is to play for Real Madrid,”.
“It is the best club in the world and the only place I would leave Benfica for.
“Madrid have the best players in the world and I have many friends there. Nothing has been done but I hope the signing will go ahead. Benfica understand my decision and I intend to make it a good deal for them. I will be grateful to them all my life.
“Of course I have spoken to Cristiano (Ronaldo), Pepe and (Ricardo) Carvalho. I’m still a Benfica player but my interest is to sign for Madrid.”
