Harry Kewell Set To Miss The World Cup After Training Ground Injury

Bad news for all Harry Kewell fans as the midfielder has suffered an injury setback and is now in doubt for Australia’s World Cup campaign.

The 31-year old aggravated his ongoing groin injury at training with Turkish club Galatasaray during the week and Gala’s assistant coach Johan Neeskens confirmed he may struggle to get fully fit in time for the tournament in South Africa next month.

“Right now, I think it’s going to be very difficult,” Neeskens told the Herald. “Stage by stage he got better but then he fell back again. He chose to stop practising and take treatment but sometimes after three or four days and he stops treatment and starts training again, it comes back again.

“He started again with the team a week ago but now the second week he gets some pain and he didn’t feel comfortable. Tuesday, he stopped again and couldn’t continue the work because it’s too painful.

“I don’t know if he really is to make the World Cup at this rate. First of all it’s up to himself and the doctors in Australia. If he cannot participate, it’s a big loss for Australia.”

Kewell made a return to action last week, coming on in the 88th minute in the Turkish Super Lig and it seemed as though he was on track for the World Cup opener against Germany on June 14 but this latest setback has raised considerable doubt over his fitness.
