Reports are out claiming that Arsenal hero Kenny Sansom feels Kieran Gibbs is the best left-back option available to England.
With Manchester United’s Luke Shaw and Everton star Leighton Baines injured, plus Tottenham’s Danny Rose not selected, Gibbs looks set to get a chance to stake his claim in the friendlies against France and Spain.
Sansom told the Daily Star: “If he was fit I’d say Luke Shaw should start at the Euros. But he isn’t, so I think Gibbs should start.
“Leighton Baines is okay but I’ve seen him play a few times live and been disappointed.
“He’s a very good player. But I think Gibbs is a better player. He is just as good going forward and better defensively.
“Also, if Baines has someone ahead of him who’s not used to playing left wing, he never gives them any information.
“You have to be able to talk someone through that role, and he doesn’t. He needs to be more of a talker.
“Gibbs has Champions League experience as well. But I think it’s mainly about ability, and he has that.”
