It has been reported that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has scrapped their traditional new season curtain raiser.
The Mirror claims that United have abandoned their traditional plan of playing a pre-season friendly at Old Trafford ahead of the new season – on the orders of Van Gaal.
The United boss does not want a repeat of last year, when his side faced Valencia at the Theatre of Dreams four days before the new season.
United lost their season opener at home to Swansea and managed just five points from as many games as they made a sluggish start.
