It has been reported that Manuel Pellegrini has hit out at referee Mark Clattenburg for his apparent poor performance in Saturday’s 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Manchester City.
City boss Pellegrini saw his Premier League champions take the lead through Sergio Aguero just before the half-hour mark at the Emirates Stadium prior to falling behind when Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez struck in the second half.
City managed to rescue a point courtesy of an 83rd-minute header from Martin Demichelis but it could have been a completely different story if Clattenburg had have whistled for fouls in the lead-up to both Gunners goals.
Pellegrini likened the match official’s performance to that of the 3-2 loss to Liverpool last season when Martin Skrtel appeared to handle the ball prior to the Reds’ second goal.
“I think we have very difficult decisions, today was unbelievable,” Pellegrini told BT Sport.
“He (Clattenburg) had a very bad day today in the same way he had a bad day against Liverpool last year.”
The draw has left City sitting on seven points from four matches while Arsenal are undefeated on six points but have just one win.
