Reports have emerged claiming that Manchester City are willing to spend what it takes to win the race for Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte.
The Sun reported that Pep Guardiola hopes to make the Athletic Bilbao defender his first signing at the Etihad.
Laporte is understood to have a £40m release clause in his current contract.
City would then hand the 21-year-old an £8m-a-year – £154,000-a-week – contract plus a hefty package of add-ons, totalling an eye-watering £80m.
Laporte, a French Under-21s international, has been highly impressive over his last three seasons at Bilbao.
He was named in La Liga’s Team of the Year for the 2013/14 season and is in high demand this summer.
Arsenal, Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris St-Germain are also keen on him.
