Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has admitted that dropping into midfield is a long-term goal.
United assistant boss Ryan Giggs, plagued by hamstring injuries in his early career, went on to play in the Premier League and Champions League aged 40 after modifying his game – and that is Rooney’s aim for the future.
Rooney said: “Yes, that is what I plan to do because I have always believed I have the quality to play different roles.
“I’ve watched many games and always taken notice of how midfielders are playing.
“That will really help me to be in more control of a game rather than being an impact player. That will certainly extend my career.”
