It has been reported that Manchester United wing-back Antonio Valencia is out of Ecuador’s Copa America squad.
The Ecuadorian Football Federation has confirmed that the United winger will miss the South American tournament following surgery on a troublesome ankle.
Ecuador manager Gustavo Quinteros is disappointed to be without his 75-cap veteran.
“The plates or screws were causing trouble,” explained Quinteros.
“Therefore they (United) decided on an operation. It was urgent surgery for Antonio. I want him to be 100 per cent in World Cup qualifying.
“The surgery was not something that was planned long ago.”
