Reports are out claiming that Paul Merson believes Chelsea will kick on from their midweek return to form when they host Arsenal this weekend.
The Blues defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-0 in their Champions League opener on Wednesday night after struggling in their opening five Premier League matches.
On the other hand, Merson’s former club Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Dinamo Zagreb after winning three of their past four domestically.
The London rivals face off at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and Merson is of the belief that perhaps Jose Mourinho will once again get the better of Arsene Wenger.
“I have to go with Chelsea. Their record against Arsenal is fantastic, they just don’t lose to them. I know Arsenal won in the Community Shield, but that was a bigger game for Arsenal than it was for Chelsea,” Merson wrote in his pre-round prediction for Sky Sports.
“Chelsea made changes in the Champions League, but they had a home game. Arsenal got it horribly wrong. Playing away you cannot make six changes. It was very naive of Arsene Wenger. You have to get off to a positive start, especially with Bayern Munich in the group.
“After what happened in midweek, it has swung all the pressure onto Arsenal, not Chelsea.”
Merson tipped Chelsea to beat Arsenal 2-1.
