It has been reported that Angel di Maria has moved to Manchester United on incredible wages.
The Sunday Mirror reported that the Argentine international will earn £280,000 a week at Manchester United.
It is said that United have been forced to agree to pay a premium wage to the 26-year-old because they could not offer him Champions League football.
Di Maria’s advisers have been touting the winger around Europe all summer – and United blinked first by agreeing a fee of £59.7million with another potential £7million in add-ons.
Sunday Mirror Sport can also reveal that the proposal to clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City was that they would pay him a basic salary of just under £6.5m – AFTER TAX.
For clubs unable to offer him the chance to play in Europe’s top competition, that net figure went close to £7m.
When income tax and national insurance are factored in, Di Maria will cost United £70m in basic wages over the course of his five-year contract.
Wayne Rooney is United’s top earner on almost £300,000 a week and Robin van Persie earns £250,000 a week.
