It has been reported that Manchester United failed with a bid for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak last summer, it has been revealed.
Marca claims that United chiefs were so convinced they’d lose David de Gea to Real Madrid, they made a firm approach to Atletico for Oblak.
United tabled an offer of €35 million for the Czech Republic international.
But Atletico refused to do business, insisting Oblak was not for sale.
United boss Louis van Gaal quickly handed free agent Sergio Romero a contract and also was able to keep De Gea away from Real as the summer market shut.
