Barcelona defender Dani Alves has decided to heat things up for Ronaldo as they come face to face in today’s El Clasico, Alves says he rates Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney over Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, and claims he has a “real weakness” for the English striker.
Alves also believes Lionel Messi is currently the best player in the world “without any doubt”, but Rooney is also an exceptional talent.
“I have a real weakness for Rooney… he’s incredible, incredible. He’s fantastic. The way he works. He’s perfect,” Alves told The Guardian.
“He’s better than Cristiano Ronaldo but Ronaldo took protagonism off him last year.
“Rooney was practically playing at left-back sometimes. The game that he played here against Barcelona in the Champions League, when Ronaldo missed the penalty, he was at left-back.”
Alves went on to claim the current United side were also better without Ronaldo, who now plays for Barcelona’s main rivals Real Madrid.
“Sometimes it’s hard in a team to have lots of players with big names; sometimes they take something away from each other,” he noted.
“Right now, maybe Manchester United play better as a team than before, when they had Ronaldo. They’re as good, or better, as they were.”
