Tottenham Hotspur won the battle between two of the Premier League’s top four pretenders after beating Manchester City 3-0 at White Hart Lane.
unbeaten run to an end.
Kranjcar started the move that culminated in his third Spurs goal of the season when he played in Aaron Lennon on the right wing, where the England winger had been having so much joy against veteran left-back Sylvinho all evening. Lennon skipped over the Brazilian’s challenge with ease and chipped a ball to the far post. Peter Crouch saw his header rebound off Stephen Ireland but Kranjcar followed up to beat Shay Given from close range.
Tottenham’s second was classic route one stuff. Ten minutes after the break goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes pumped a long ball forward that Crouch flicked on. Defoe managed to sneak round Kolo Toure and steer the ball past Given.
Kranjcar added the gloss to the scoreline in injury time when, after Lennon knocked a short corner to him, he knocked the ball past and flat-footed Emmanuel Adebayor and ran round the other way before slotting through Given’s legs at the near post.
